Bird Feeders

My Bird Feeders havent had any attention and a few years. I painted a few of them last week. Today I ripped this one apart while I was wating for it to warm up enough to get back to painting the floor on the sun porch. It had a rood of Vinyl siding. I took that off and scrubbed it, and painted all of the wood.

As I was painting it, I got to thinking how my dad had made this and painted it. This was the kind of chores he did while Mom was at work. I thought even though hes gone now, here I am making a connection with him by painting his feeder.

Then as I looked at the top of the feeder I knew that one day this feeder too would be gone. and it made me a little sad. But then I brightened knowing that even after all the things that Daddy ever did are gone, I will still be painting my bird feeders burgundy. Not because I like burgundy, but because its what Daddy painted them. By keeping my feeders burgundy I keep a little of him her with me every time a paint a feeder.

Ideas.....

I have been doing some home repairs around the house, painting here and there in this beautiful weather, and I found this picture on a funny picture site. One of the repairs I am planning on doing is repainting my back porch floor. It has been years since it has been done and I have plenty of the paint still so I think once I get the floor painted a painted on welcome mat could be really neat.

I do think I will take a bit more care in doing it though! LOL

Patch Kit?

I know its New years day and that is normally a different kind of post but tomorrow is my daughters 18th birthday. This year shes having a sleepover. Although, My air mattress had a hole in it. Now I thought if its just in the plastic side that's a simple fix some packing tape would seal it up.

But nothing is ever easy in my world is it? the hole was not only on the side of the mattress, but it was FUZZY.... tape just isn't gonna work.

So i took a shot... I thought what harm could it do? Its already ruined, cuz if it doesn't hold air I might as well throw it out. So, I drained all the air out of it and sealed the hole up with acrylic artificial nail stuff. The stuff you use over nail tips, and it actually worked! The thing holds air.

wind chime repair

I found a wind chime that was forgotten last fall. The strings were broken the "catcher" was missing, the paint was chipped. Sadly this was chime was a good sounding one. So I feel I must repair it.


First thing I had to do was remove all of the broken strings, sand off the old paint, and re paint with a corresponding color.

Now I have to re string the pipes, and my center clapper, and wind catcher. if you are repairing a chime of your own pay close attention to how the pipes are strung most are strung this way.



But this was the first one that I have seen that the strings were held fast by a tack. I like this idea, by fastening the strings with a tack, the pipes stay where you put them. I will probably use this method again!

And there you go, ready to hang! I enjoyed this. It was an easy afternoon task. I did this while my daughter was signing up for her SAT's.

I searched online and there are lots of Kits available if you want to make one yourself. I am also thinking about making a new one myself... maybe we will see another one of these before summer is out.

bike seat

How much dirt can accumulate after 15 years?? The seat that came with our bike is in excellent shape, but OH the GRIME! I tried all kinds of cleaners on it with no luck. I finally used a shower cleaner one that takes off rust stains. I wore rubber gloves and used a tooth brush to scrub into the cracks and finally I can say its clean, and ready to back on the bike!

You can see my "Princess" watched from the couch. Most of all that we have done so far has been right in our living room as we ahve no heat in our garage and 7 degrees is just to cold to work on this stuff. but yet it still needs done. hopefully soon we can put all the parts back together. I would like to get that all done PRIOR to the garage getting warm enough to work in!

Gas Tank

My dear husband and I have started a new project together. We bought an old motorcycle that had been setting around in someone garage for the last ten years. and we are going to get it road ready for the summer season. So even though it isn't a "typical" craft I am going to learn restoration along this path. and I will be having a smattering of this along with everything else that I do.

Steve has really been chomping at the bit to get going on this so i told him to bring in the gas tank. and we would give it a once over and see how bad of shape it is in.

Well we washed it and then we fetched in the buffer I bought for Steve last year, and hit the tank with the buufing compound and it took on a nice shine.

Good enough that we have decided not to fix the rust this year, we are going to send it out next winter during the off season. That way we wont have to wait this year to ride.
