Quilt Re-thought

We decided on brown for the sashing. But i had on square that really didn't come out right, and honestly more like 3 that didn't make my "cut"

Since I am just learning quilting, I have many, many, boo boos! but i dont like to start and not finish, SOOOOO

I got on the phone with my sister and we brainstormed the morning away. at the end of it, I decided that I want this quilt to be something I am proud of. Michelle could care less, shes gonna be happy with what i hand her. or she BETTER! LOL

So I got to looking at the problem. I needed 12 blocks I only have 9 really good ones that are nearly the same size and squareness.

I had lots of the 4in "scrap" squares i had made practicing. these i finally decided to make them into my cornerstones. well taking three blocks out made this too small for a teenager. BUT.....

ADDING the small (4in) squares around the outside as well, added 8 inches back on to the quilt!

Now I wanted to see how it would all lay out and what size it would be approximately so I laid it out on my double bed....
I put the black there at the foot to help distinguish from my bedspread. I do need 4 more 4 in squares to complete the look I am going for but with the 3 squares I am discarding, I now have the material I need, and I wont just be chucking 3 blocks! I think this will be just the right size, it measures 52 inches squared. so i am thinking it should, barring anymore screw ups, measure larger than 50 inches when the top is finished. and i may still put a border around the whole thing maybe 4 or 6 inches.

I really like it with this brown now that I can see it better.I don't understand why you are taking away 3 blocks , but you can always add more than one color boarder to make it bigger , I love the pinwheel design with the 4" corner ones .

Ok I looked at it agian and I think I know now what you are doing .......you don't have enough of the 4" to make this size ?? What you can do is take 2 corners off the top and replace on the bottom and then make 4 more of a differnt color pinwheel with the white . do you have any more of the purple or green or you could do all with the crackle look print .

Cheryl, one of the blocks didnt turn out square (they are 1.5 inches shy on one side) I screwed it up really bad. I ran out of the crackle material so i just cant make a new one.
I wanted to used the 4 in all around the blocks, but i'm short a few but with the 12 inch blocks that i am scrapping, i can make new 4 inch ones. and the other two blocks i can make a pillow sham out of.
