Great Costume Ideas day 4

I hope you have found something you like for this Halloween! I certainly have enjoyed bringing these ideas to you! I wont be posting tomorrow, I still have my costume to get ready! Now which one of theses am I gonna be? I am thinking "Static Cling"!

Cereal Killer

Attach little cereal boxes to a shirt, cut a slit in the boxes, glue in plastic knives into the holes, drip red paint running down from the knife hole in the box.

Basket of laundry...clean or dirty.
Wear sweat pants and sweatshirt if it is cold. Tights and a turtleneck if you will be in a warm building. Take an inexpensive (thin) plastic laundry basket and cut a hole in the bottom that you can fit through. Make it small enough so that is "sits" on your hips after you pull it over your head. Fill basket with laundry and pin a few dryer softener sheets to your sweatshirt. also an empty soap box adds a nice touch.

Friday Favorites

Friday favorites was part of a "Blog Game" that I was a part of for a short while....

The owner of the blog posted what the favorite was going to be on Thursday, as a PS and then on Friday you posted your favorite to match hers. IE... favorite quilt block. You could then comment her "Friday Favorite" post with a link to your Friday Favorite post.

Well my Friday favorite host has dropped the post. I actually really enjoyed it so I am going to pick this up in my blogging. Although I am moving this from my "crafting" blog to my "Cancer" Blog.

I am moving it for a few reasons; Since I am going to host it, its not going to be just about crafting. Also I think I have broadened my crafting a bit much with my "Nature" posts ;o) and if I continue on this trend this blog wont have anything to do with crafting. My "cancer" Blog will eventually die off with the cancer if I do not find new things to do with it. Since that blog has been more personal from the start, I think it belongs more on that blog anyhow.

So Join me on my Friday Favorites over on "The Dragon" and see what are my favorites and let me know yours!

Great Costume Ideas day 3

Day 3 for costume Ideas! I hope you are enjoying this!

Miss. America
Use a old bridesmaid dress of formal, add a pair of gloves, a tiara, some over sized jewelry, and heels. For the banner, a piece of wide ribbon, and write "Miss. America" in glitter. Perhaps a bunch of silk roses with a gold ribbon? old formal gowns if you don't have one normally run $5 at any thrift store on the off prom season. and a tiara for a 5 yr old from the local dollar store.

Static Cling
Wear anything a solid color is good all white or all black. With safety pins pin anything to yourself ie: socks, underwear, bounce sheets, etc. You can also spray your hair straight up in the air.

Great Costume Ideas day 2

Day 2 for costume Ideas! I hope you are enjoying this!

The American tourist: Guys loud Hawaii shirt, shorts (if weather permits), Large straw hat. Gals bright loud dress, flats, big sun hat, straw bag. Don't forget to have a camera, and maps hanging out, and that look of being lost.

Guys can use a tourist bag, or even a duffel or camera bag, and gals can use the straw bag or a beach bag for their treats.

1960s Hippy: This one is hard, after all its all back in style! What is real, and what is costume? ;-) Tie die clothing, long wig (in the old days we called a "fall", sandals, headband, anything with fringe on it (vests, purse...) light colored sun glasses.

Great Costume Ideas day 1

Sara over at I'm not Judging I'm Just Saying

Challenged everyone to come up with a costume that didnt have a ton of skin showing. So not to be undone by a challenge ...

Until Halloween I am going to be posting a few great ideas and how to do them.

Most Great costumes can be purchased at your local thrift shop. You will stay warm, wont spend a lot of money and you wont have to have your (for lack of a better word) "Private Parts" hanging out.

Happy Haunting Everyone!

A Ghost the old standby
Grab a old white sheet, cut out the eyes. Be sure its is short enough not to trip you. Take scrap piece of sheet, and sew up a simple treat bag.

Scarecrow: Over sized flannel shirt, faded blue jeans with patches, rope for belt and to tie at the cuffs of his jeans and sleeves, stuff the shirt and jeans with plastic grocery, or paper, a little bit of straw to hang out of jeans and shirt. Add a little bit of make-up.

Quilt top

I have one more border to go around the outside, then this will be ready to take to the quilter! No I am not going to quilt this myself.... My sister just bought a new quilt frame !!! Yippee!

Re setting the Sewing room

I have decided that my dining room that has been my "temporary" sewing room until my 17 year old goes to college. is going to be my permanent sewing room. and if this is going to be permanent, I better get some organization to the mess.

I learned from Flylady how to de-clutter and area and how to get things better organized. If you have an area like what I have above, then may I suggest flylady? Shes great and has helped me get control over so many aspects of my life.

Moving on! you see the door? That is my pantry/ broom closet or can I say, the closet you don't dare open? there was no room for anything. so I cleared it all out, Kept the stuff I loved, and i am donating the rest. unless its junk then i am going to throw it out.

the right hand side of the closet is very long it extends all the way back to my china hutch, (you can see just the corner of it on the right)

it has two shelves in it. the top shelves i now have all of our board games on the top shelf, and on the bottom shelf all of the things that go on my craft table. Pretty slick huh? I actually made a place to STORE my finished craft stuff in between shows! All I have to do to get ready for a show now is pull it out and put it in the car! all in one place right where i can get it.

Under the shelf is a place for my folding chairs, ice cream freezer, a ladder and yes I can get to the ladder =) and my hose to clean my fish tank with.

The things I use most (ladder and fish hose) are the easiest accessible, and I always use them together so it doesn't matter that the hose is in front of the ladder on a hook.

I even have room for a stack of totes that I can keep my fabric in! this way they aren't all laying on the floor around my sewing table!

It will be nice when I get it all done I will keep you posted!

Nature Window

Kittie Likes the Nature Window.

This is where you can find my cat day after day. She sits for hours thumping her tail against the window sill. Unfortunately, she forgets there is glass and rams her head into it when a dove or a Blue Jay comes to the feeder. Silly kittie you cant "get" the birdies!

New Dress

My daughter asked me to Sew her a dress for homecoming. But since I had less than a month to get supplies, patterns fabric and others not to mention actually SEW it. I told her it was a no go.

So Off to the mall we went. JCPenny revealed this dress to be cheaper than the fabric and pattern would have been and so much more fun to get. Oh UNLESS you are my husband, you can see him in the back bored out of his mind!

I'll post a shot of her once shes all dolled up, this was the last stop on a 4 hour trip we all were a bit wilted.

Poor cold birdies

Well Yesterday I was questioning if my blue birds managed to get south before the snow. See the answer I got this AM? The remnants of the snow you can still see in the background. Its hard to see the bluebirds in the pic, the blend well but one next to the fence post on the second wire and the one on the top wire is a bit further over. There was also a third bird on a tree, so perhaps these are the babies?

Snow?!

This is my view this morning. I don't ever remember having snow like this this early. But sure enough its here and its still coming down. I have "heard" we could get up to a foot. That would be awful!

It makes me wonder if my blue birds got home in time!

carmel corn

I have always thought that I did not like Carmel corn. I have some suspicions of why but I really don't know for sure. I do know that I dislike crackerjack and when I was a kid having to eat that whole box to get to a ring was almost torture. So that might have something to do with it.

My daughter has a bake sale at school this week. I really hated the idea of baking cookies all day (it wears me out) so i decided to try to make my own Carmel corn.

After consulting with two Carmel corn lovers, I looked up a few recipes and they are all basically the same.

As I cooked it in the oven I found I couldnt stay out of it! so I guess I am a convert.

I also added 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to my sugars

Ingredients

1 cup butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.

Over medium heat, combine first 4 ingredients and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in baking soda. Stir well. Pour over 8 quarts popped corn. Stir to coat well. Bake in large roaster or pan for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on waxed paper to dry.

Fresh suet

I made a huge batch of suet, and then realized I didn't have enough molds to put them in. I didnt really want to use all of my 9x13 pans to "cake" them up. so I thought what am I gonna do with it all?

My Dad made this feeder oh, about 20 years ago. Its just flat on the bottom, perfect for putting any kind of seed into. I originally put cracked corn into it trying to attract squirrels away from my mothers house. Without any luck. Now I find just perfect for putting a huge batch of suet into.

Lets see those blue jays gulp down this feed!!!

Setting the GPS

The blue birds that were here in the spring were here Yesterday. Its too cold to nest and its the wrong time of year so I called up a "blue birder" and found out it is very common for them to come back to where they nested in the spring on the way south. Some times they bring the whole FLOCK! my friend has said they once saw a flock of 50!

I did not have the whole flock just the two that were here. So I guess the set their GPS? Its good to know they will be back in the spring provided that the trip south is successful!

Fly on my little birdies! And hurry back with the warm weather!
